A look back at the Centenary festivities: an unforgettable and inspirational experience
From 4 to 8 October, La Mamounia, the jewel in the crown of Moroccan hospitality, celebrated a century of excellence with true panache, bringing its Centenary to a close with a series of spectacular festivities, quite befitting of its reputation. During this exceptional week, we had the honour of welcoming guests from all over the world for a sensational experience focused on luxury, tradition and the Moroccan "art de vivre".
We owe La Mamounia's standing as an emblematic institution, perpetuating a sense of service and hospitality, first and foremost to its teams. We therefore felt it essential to thank all those who have contributed to La Mamounia's success, namely our staff and retirees, to whom we paid tribute at the opening evening on 4 October.
The Chandelier, Ode to Light
An evening of Moroccan dance and music, attended by 1,000 guests. And to capture the fascinating history of La Mamounia, we also organised an exhibition, retracing the hotel's role in the cultural and social history of Morocco. As part of its quest for excellence and customer satisfaction, La Mamounia has undertaken major renovation work on its reception areas, VIP lounge and the Bar Majorelle. This work was entrusted to the Jouin Manku Agency. And on 5 October, the centrepiece and Jewel of the Grande Dame, was unveiled in the hotel lobby: the Centenary Chandelier, an extraordinary object symbolising the Ode to Light.
The art of entertaining, a hallmark of La Mamounia
On 6 October, the gardens of La Mamounia were transformed into a magical dining experience for 350 guests, who enjoyed a banquet meal prepared by Jean-Georges Vongerichten rounded off with a dessert by Pierre Hermé, all to the gentle accompaniment of French pianist, Sofiane Pamart. Once again, La Mamounia pulled out all the stops to showcase its finesse in the art of entertaining.
Morocco at the heart of our heritage
The highlight of the celebrations was the Centenary evening on 7 October, which was brimming with emotion, with 2,000 guests from all over the world attending a spectacular musical programme: a ball with Sadeck, the renowned international choreographer who, in just one week, trained 60 young dancers from the Kingdom.
The evening was also a time for solidarity, with an appeal for donations to help rebuild Marrakesh and the surrounding area following the earthquake. The tribute to Morocco also included the Moroccan national anthem, sung for the first time by Moroccan artist Oum, accompanied on the piano by Sofiane Pamart. This was followed by a series of tableaux and songs, reflecting La Mamounia's deep-rooted sense of place in its heritage.
The climax of the evening was singer-songwriter Mika, who performed for an hour and took advantage of his visit to visit a children's charity. 500 drones performed a ballet in the skies over Marrakesh, creating a true sense of wonder, followed by a three-minute firework display. The celebrations left a lasting impression on all who attended, and we're delighted to have been able to share them with you.
An unrivalled luxury destination, an ambassador of memories and intense sensations, La Mamounia, with its 100 years of history celebrated in its own inimitable style, has every intention of continuing in its tradition of excellence and of being a shining light for the next 100 years.
